A case of a senior widow without any family support and how IKOR® provides her peace of mind through
advocacy and Datikor™ should any medical emergency occur.
Issues and Challenges
Mrs. J. is an 86 year old woman who lives in a retirement community alone. Her husband recently died, and having no children, she finds herself in her elder
years without family support. She supported her husband through a long and difficult illness before his passing, and she realized that should the same thing
happen to her, she wouldn't have anyone to advocate for her. It was with this thought that she contacted IKOR®.
IKOR ApproachSM
The IKOR ApproachSM started with Mrs. J. meeting her RN Patient Advocate and the completion of the detailed IKOR® Initial
Assessment. With the data obtained through the assessment, the IKOR RN Patient Advocate became familiar with Mrs. J's medical history, currently living
arrangements, treatment providers and community connections. Just as important as these elements, the RN Patient Advocate learned what Mrs. J's quality of
life wishes and end of life decisions would be. Mrs. J. was living comfortably and independently at the time of the assessment. Because she didn't have an
immediate need for IKOR® assistance, Mrs. J's detailed information has been maintained in Datikor®. Periodically, that information has been
updated to assure that Mrs. J's IKOR® Patient Advocates are kept abreast of any subtle changes.
Case Outcome
Mrs. J continues to live in independence secure in the fact that if or when her situation changes, IKOR® will be there for her. Should a
medical emergency occur, her IKOR® Patient Advocate will be there, to share the vital information necessary to assure the safest and highest
quality of care possible within the perimeters of her life decisions.
